Patient scanning system

Development of a 3D-scansystem for patient-positioning in radiotherapy: possibility to acquire a surface contour of the patient prior and during the daily treatment session, to ensure the correct position of the patient.

Fig.1: The surface scanner is mounted below ceiling in a treatment room. Basic components of the 3D scan system are two commercial videobeamer and two colour CCD cameras with a stabile and flexible holder.   

Fig.2: To scan a patient surface, a gray coded and phase-shifted stripe-light is projected by a commercial video beamer. A camera with a well defined position acquires twelve pictures from every different stripe-projection. Additionally a full white light and an unlighted picture are used to create a two-dimensional mask to detect areas witch less information depth.

Fig.3: 3D surface registration of a female right breast and is presented by the beams eye few perspective. The colour coded structures shows the deviations to the CT based reference scan. After a 3D registration the distances between the structures can been reduced.
